1) Spend the time!

By far the most important factor is how much time you are immersed in the language. The more time you spend with the language, the faster you will learn. This means listening, reading, writing, speaking, and studying words and phrases.

2) Listen and read every day!

Listen wherever you are on your MP3 player. Read what you are listening to. Listen to and read things that you like, things that you can mostly understand, or even partly understand. If you keep listening and reading you will get used to the language. One hour of listening or reading is more effective than many hours of class time.

3) Focus on words and phrases!

Build up your vocabulary, you’ll need lots. Start to notice words and how they come together as phrases. Learn these words and phrases through your listening and reading.

4) Take responsibility for your own learning!

If you do not want to learn the language, you won’t. If you do want to learn the language, take control. Choose content of interest, that you want to listen to and read. Seek out the words and phrases that you need to understand your listening and reading.

5) Relax and enjoy yourself!

Do not worry about what you cannot remember, or cannot yet understand, or cannot yet say. It does not matter. You are learning and improving. The language will gradually become clearer in your brain, but this will happen on a schedule that you cannot control.

The Spanish translation of the phrase would Thanksgiving: Acción de Gracias.

It is a religious holiday celebrated in Canada on the second Monday of October in the U.S. the fourth Thursday of November. The first Thanksgiving were harvest festivals and the chance to thank God.
So, we celebrate Thanksgiving Day in late fall, after a good harvest.

According to some Native American people, Thanksgiving is the celebration of the Indian Wars.

The origin of Thanksgiving has been discussed and everyone has their own version.

On December 11, 1620, in Massachusetts, a few pilgrims arrived fleeing religious British persecution. They founded the colony of Plymouth. The winter was unbearable and many people died of hunger or cold.
When spring came, the Pilgrims needed to keep the crop and save for next winter. Their survival is due to the Squanto and Samoset, two Indians from a different tribe. It was them who taught them to hunt, fish, and especially to harvest the corn.
In 1621, the harvest results were great so the colonial governor William Bradford proclaimed that day the day of Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims shared it with their Indian neighbors.

There are many other versions of the origin of Thanksgiving.

Three centuries ago, Thanksgiving was a day of prayers and giving praise to God while today the tradition has changed and Thanksgiving is an opportunity to bring the whole family together for fun and to celebrate with the typical Thanksgiving meal.
