Even in countries in which English is not the primary language, it is important to learn English for a number of reasons. However, learning how to speak English in a non-English country can be quite challenging. Where those learning how to speak English in English-speaking countries have a lot of resources to their disposal such as television, radio, and libraries that are packed full of books written in English, the resident of a non-English country does not have that luxury. That is why it is important to explore other options.

Below are 10 ways that an individual wishing to speak English can learn in their own county:

1. The Internet is going to be your best friend. It is packed full of resources, reading materials, sound recordings, and so much more that can help you learn the meaning of the words that you read and speak.

2. Check out your local video store and see if there are movies in English. There may be a few. Don’t worry about the entertainment value of the title. You are watching it so you can stop it and replay it in order to focus on your English speaking skills.

3. Record yourself when you speak English. After you are finished recording, play it back and see what you sound like. If you are not clear, then you can simply try again. This is a great way to see how others hear you.

4. Go to your library and pick out titles that are written in English. Try to read those titles.

5. Find an English CD and listen to it. Decipher the words and even try to sing along. This can be a lot of fun. If you want to, you can record yourself doing this and really have a lot of fun.

6. Try to surround yourself with as many English materials as possible. Not just books, movies, and CDs, but magazines and any products that you can find in the store that may have English written on them.

7. Practice with a friend. This friend may not know English, but impress them with your skills. You may even try to teach what you have learned because you will be less likely to forget by repeating the information to another.

8. If you hear a word and you don’t know what it is, write it down and do research on what it means. In your research you’ll encounter many more English words for you to ponder over.

9. Keep a diary in English. The things you write can be as simple as what day it is and what the weather is like outside.

10. And the most important to learn English is to consider online ESL courses. Like for example Dexway.
These online courses help you learn at your pace and provide you with materials that will have you speaking English in no time. All of the other steps can be used outside of your courses to make you proficient in the language.

1) Spend the time!

By far the most important factor is how much time you are immersed in the language. The more time you spend with the language, the faster you will learn. This means listening, reading, writing, speaking, and studying words and phrases.

2) Listen and read every day!

Listen wherever you are on your MP3 player. Read what you are listening to. Listen to and read things that you like, things that you can mostly understand, or even partly understand. If you keep listening and reading you will get used to the language. One hour of listening or reading is more effective than many hours of class time.

3) Focus on words and phrases!

Build up your vocabulary, you’ll need lots. Start to notice words and how they come together as phrases. Learn these words and phrases through your listening and reading.

4) Take responsibility for your own learning!

If you do not want to learn the language, you won’t. If you do want to learn the language, take control. Choose content of interest, that you want to listen to and read. Seek out the words and phrases that you need to understand your listening and reading.

5) Relax and enjoy yourself!

Do not worry about what you cannot remember, or cannot yet understand, or cannot yet say. It does not matter. You are learning and improving. The language will gradually become clearer in your brain, but this will happen on a schedule that you cannot control.

The human brain of a young child is precisely programmed to learn a language  – or two, or three. It gets more challenging to learn a second language after the age of 8 or 10, and even more an uphill battle if you attempt it in adulthood.

Finally, we know why. Researchers at University College London have discovered that people who are bilingual have more gray matter (neurons, or brain cells) in the language region of their brains.
The earlier a child learns a second language, the more advanced his or her brain becomes in language acquisition.
This reinforces the idea that it is better to learn a second language in the early years.
Unfortunately, most students enroll in a second-language class long after the brain’s “window of opportunity” is closed.

Why should people learn a language in addition to English?  The whole world speaks English, does it not?
Clearly there’s some truth in this argument – but far from the whole truth. Spanish is one of the fastest growing languages in the world and Mandarin is more and more becoming a language of great importance.
You can’t  rely solely on English in a globalised world.

learning

Educational reasons
Learning a new language at the earliest possible age opens up a whole new dimension for children: it greatly benefits their reading and writing in their own language; there’s evidence that, like musical education, it contributes significantly to the development of individual intelligence; and concretely it improves overall results at school.

Cultural reasons
A new language opens up a whole new culture. A new language gives us access to another culture, and our lives take on a new dimension. The great German poet, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, said in 1827:
“Whoever is not acquainted with foreign languages knows nothing of his own.”
Seen like that, learning a language is almost comparable to a journey of discovery.
Conversely, to lose a language is to lose a whole culture. This realisation has led to determined efforts to preserve minority languages. It is a fundamental truth that cultures define themselves through languages.

Personality
By learning a new language, you gain new horizons, but at the same time you reinforce your own identity, and therefore also your self-confidence. A different language can contribute to a stronger personality.

Economic reasons
The typical profile expected from future business leaders fully reflects the demands of the globalised world. People that are bilingual or multilingual find a good job more easily than others.

Soon, on the 25th of November,  Americans will celebrate Thanksgiving. Canadians have already celebrated it on October 11.
All countries of the world have many common parties and other completely different so it is important to know the culture of each country to travel and enjoy these moments of happiness

What is Thanksgiving? What is the origin of this party? What is usually done on Thanksgiving Day?

The Spanish translation of the phrase would Thanksgiving: Acción de Gracias.

It is a religious holiday celebrated in Canada on the second Monday of October in the U.S. the fourth Thursday of November. The first Thanksgiving were harvest festivals and the chance to thank God.
So, we celebrate Thanksgiving Day in late fall, after a good harvest.

According to some Native American people, Thanksgiving is the celebration of the Indian Wars.

The origin of Thanksgiving has been discussed and everyone has their own version.

On December 11, 1620, in Massachusetts, a few pilgrims arrived fleeing religious British persecution. They founded the colony of Plymouth. The winter was unbearable and many people died of hunger or cold.
When spring came, the Pilgrims needed to keep the crop and save for next winter. Their survival is due to the Squanto and Samoset, two Indians from a different tribe. It was them who taught them to hunt, fish, and especially to harvest the corn.
In 1621, the harvest results were great so the colonial governor William Bradford proclaimed that day the day of Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims shared it with their Indian neighbors.

There are many other versions of the origin of Thanksgiving.

Three centuries ago, Thanksgiving was a day of prayers and giving praise to God while today the tradition has changed and Thanksgiving is an opportunity to bring the whole family together for fun and to celebrate with the typical Thanksgiving meal.
People from all over the world, gather together with their families to share good food. Do not forget the stuffed turkey … pumpkin pie …
Each year, thousands of collections are made to feed the poor and homeless.
Thanksgiving is a perfect time to be a little more generous than normal to your fellow man.
Thanksgiving can also be an excellent opportunity to celebrate with people from other countries and cultures.

As we all know, to embrace different cultures can be the first step to also learning a new language. Imagine sharing the Thanksgiving day with a real American family? It would certainly be a great opportunity to practice English in an authentic environment and classic menu that so many times we have seen in Hollywood movies.

It is always essential to take this test before you decide on a certain level, unless of course you need to start from scratch.

The level is a central issue in learning a language, also when leaving examination. The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) provides a number of levels for all languages. Learning, teaching and assessment of languages, there are six levels on three blocks:

- Block A: A1 and A2.

- Block B: B1 and B2.

A language course must respect these 6 levels both during and in the test. If you do this test, it will be an excellent start because it will define where your knowledge level is and will therefore perfectly choose a course that suits your needs.
